The player in this scenario is Calvin Ridley. When I think of a “dream free agent,” I’m thinking of a player who can produce on the field, and even though he might be overpaid, his presence would still elevate the team no matter what. But with bigger concerns on the roster, Barkley feels like a dream at this point. Barkley would provide Chicago’s projected rookie quarterback another weapon in the passing game, which is important for a team looking to finally develop a quarterback. If the Bears were to land Barkley, they’d get a dynamic playmaker who contributes both as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. The Bears are expected to be in the market for a dynamic running back, and the top option in free agency is certainly Saquon Barkley, who they’re rumored to be interested in. If they can’t find anyone better, he is someone to consider. He had a tough season with the Bears in 2023, but we know from the past that giving pass rushers a second season could work out well.

I would try to bring back Yannick Ngakoue. As they start to put the finishing touches on their defensive line this offseason, keeping Jones to filter in the rotation will help with their pass rush and run defense. Over the last two seasons, Jones has 101 total tackles, including 22 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, and 27 quarterback hits. Justin Jones has been with the Bears for the past two seasons, as they rebuild their defense. Rumors are swirling that the Bears will try to land a star back, but their run game would be in good hands should they re-sign Foreman. He shined for large portions of the year, easily outplaying fellow RBs Khalil Herbert and rookie Roschon Johnson. Jaylon Johnson is undoubtedly the slam dunk pick for this spot but, since GM Ryan Poles beat us to the punch by signing him to a four-year deal a few days ago, I’ll go with the ever-reliable Foreman. Jones is a team leader and would likely thrive under new defensive coordinator He totaled 7.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, 24 QB hits, and four pass breakups across 34 games. Jones isn’t the same quality defensive tackle as Chris Jones or Christian Wilkins, but he produced during his two years in Chicago. Next in line would be Justin Jones, though. And they did, which is great for the team but bad for this exercise. It’s pretty obvious Jaylon Johnson was far and away the top free agent the Bears needed to retain. While the Bears still need a pass-catching TE2 behind Cole Kmet, Lewis is worth bringing back for his blocking prowess alone. He was a veteran presence in the locker room and at tight end, where he thrived as a blocker and helped assist the offensive line in their pass blocking and run blocking efforts. But one under-the-radar player is ageless wonder Marcedes Lewis, who was a valuable asset for Chicago’s offense last season. There’s an argument to be made for defensive tackle Justin Jones, who’s certainly on my list if they can’t signed a defensive tackle in free agency. The answer was obviously cornerback Jaylon Johnson, who finally got his long-ter, contract extension shortly before we went to publish this.
